About Exemptions
If your qualification is listed on this database, and you qualified in the years specified and took any required modules, you will see which CIMA papers you will be awarded exemptions from. All qualifications listed on this database have been accredited by CIMA and the appropriate exemptions have been awarded based on comprehensive information provided by the awarding institution. Please note that applications are only accepted from the awarding institution and not from individual students. Decisions are based on the most recently validated programme being offered by the institution and will not be applied retrospectively.
Exemptions under the current and new 2005 syllabus
If your qualification is listed on this database you can select to see the exemptions that you will be awarded under both the current syllabus (which will be examined for the last time in November 2004) and the new 2005 syllabus (which will be examined for the first time in May 2005).
If you register with us by 31 July 2004 you will be awarded any relevant exemptions under the current syllabus. You will be eligible to enter to sit exams under the current syllabus in November 2004 if you so wish.
If you register from 1 August 2004 you will be registering under the new syllabus and any exemptions awarded will be based on this syllabus. The first exams that you will be eligible to enter will be the May 2005 exams.
We advise you to look at both sets of exemptions decisions prior to registration. The number of CIMA exams that you have to sit may vary depending upon which syllabus you register under. Please note that there are fewer exams under the new qualification. For full information about the new qualification, please visit our dedicated web area.
You can search the database by your educational/professional body or by the country in which you studied.

Please note:
Exemptions are a concession and as such are only awarded at the discretion of CIMA.
You should not sign up for CIMA courses until you have written confirmation of your exemptions. We do not accept liability for course fees which have been affected by an exemption decision.
Exemptions beyond the Foundation level are not given for academic qualifications gained 10 (or more) years prior to registration with CIMA

If your qualification is not listed and you studied a relevant qualification at first degree or Master's level you may be awarded some exemptions - go to the 'Graduate Fast Track 2' area for further information.
If your qualification is not listed and you do not fall into the 'Graduate Fast Track 2' category, you will not be awarded any exemptions from CIMA. Read about CIMA's computer based assessment at Foundation level to discover if this option is available to you.
Graduate Fast Track Guide
From February 2003 CIMA is offering a series of Fast Track routes to the CIMA professional qualification designed for graduate entrants, namely:
Graduate Fast Track 1
The route for graduates of CIMA fully accredited programmes as listed on our exemptions database
Graduate Fast Track 2
The route for graduates of related - but not CIMA accredited - programmes who are eligible to apply for a specified range of CIMA exemptions.
Graduate Fast Track 3
The route for all other graduates - CIMA Computer Based Assessment.
Follow our step by step guide to find out if you are able to claim exemptions and to see which Graduate Fast Track you should follow.
Step 1 - Check if your qualification is CIMA accredited.
Visit our database of standard CIMA decisions.
If your qualification is listed and you qualified in the years specified, you will see which CIMA papers you will be exempt from. Check carefully that the qualification title is identical to your own and that your graduation date is covered by the decision. As some exemptions are awarded on the basis of option modules, you will need to check whether you have successfully completed the options specified for each individual CIMA paper.
You will automatically be awarded the appropriate individual paper exemptions when you register and your exemptions will be confirmed at this point.
Please note that you should not sign up for a CIMA course until you have written confirmation of your exemptions. We do not accept liability for course fees which have been affected by an exemption decision.
You can then commence your CIMA studies on Graduate Fast Track 1. Go to the 'Graduate Fast Track 1' page for further details.
Step 2 - My qualification is not on the CIMA database
If you studied a related qualification at first degree or postgraduate level you may be awarded some exemptions from CIMA. The range of exemptions is less extensive than for accredited programmes as CIMA will not have the same level of understanding of the programme you followed. Based on your degree award and transcript, your qualification will be assessed against a number of CIMA subject groupings each of which corresponds to a defined range of exemptions.
If CIMA considers your qualification falls within one of the groupings, you will automatically be awarded the appropriate individual paper exemptions when you register and your exemptions will be confirmed at this point.
You should not sign up for CIMA courses until you have written confirmation of your exemptions. We do not accept liability for course fees which have been affected by an exemption decision.
If you are awarded exemptions, you can then commence your CIMA studies on Graduate Fast Track 2. Go to the 'Graduate Fast Track 2' page for further details.
Step 3 - My qualification does not fall into a CIMA grouping for exemptions
CIMA is unable to exempt you from any CIMA papers but, as a graduate, we would expect that you could, within 3 - 9 months, successfully complete the 5 Foundation level assessments via CIMA Computer Based Assessment (CBA).
CBA is a unique accelerated route to completing the CIMA Foundation level. CBA offers flexibility and convenience and students are not confined to exam diet restrictions. Results are available immediately upon completion of the assessment and students may attempt the assessment as often as they wish. CBA is well established in the UK and rapidly extending to other CIMA markets. (Paper based examinations for Foundation level will continue to be offered where CBA is not currently available.)
Go to our CBA area for full details about this method of assessment.
You are now on Graduate Fast Track 3. Go to the 'Graduate Fast Track 3' page for further details.
If you are not a graduate but you have a relevant previous qualification please search our exemptions database to see if you are entitled to any exemptions.
